Decolonizing Work - Dr Giavanni Washington

"I talk about Decolonizing Work so that my black male child can walk though the world safely, and eat skittles and wear a hoodie, without the fear of losing his life." This is how Giavanni and I started this beautiful conversation, had the way only black mamas can have it.

Together, we reflect on

  • Giavanni's research and definition of decolonization

  • the role of education in preparing us for work

  • the pain neuro-distinct people deal with at school as it prepares them for “the real world”

  • the struggle business owners feel when intending to create equitable and nourishing work spaces given our indoctrination into the “right” ways doing business

  • our communal need to become comfortable with MYSTERY and borrow from old old ways as we create new ways of working together.
